The PEV was A Big Shame on us The Citizens

It is the 30th day of the last month of the year 2007, the year which had began as the year of the Lord's favor was drawing its curtain as the year of the devils visit. All I could hear were sounds of wailing and the atmosphere was generally tense. The sky seemed to be showing anger to the inhabitants of Kenya for the mistakes they had done. At some point it seemed like we had voted unanimously for our death.

Standing on an old wrecked vehicle outside our home in the Old Fort Jesus Estate of the famous Kibera Slums, I could see a cloud of smoke ascend to the air. The slum was in fire and the just announced results by the then Electoral Commission of Kenya Chairman Mr Samuel Kivuitu did not augur well with most people.

I could not sleep that night, the nearby shops were all on fire and power seemed to have been switched off in the whole country. Since I cannot narrate the whole story and that would be for another day, I would like to cut that story short by saying, we did the acts. We burnt the stores, we looted the shops, we raped the women, we killed the men in our villages and we terrorized the whole country.
What keeps me amazed is that Kenya by then was 80% Christian, some one correct me if I am wrong. We had so many people who had attained basic education though illiteracy was still high, some of us had stayed together with different tribesmen for more than 50 Years; then we just decided over night to Kill each other.

Indeed it was the night of the Devil's visit. Despite ICC Prosecutor accusing and charging four people for masterminding the PEV, we the Kenyan Citizens are to blame.
Were those people who ran into Toi Market in Kibera looted and burnt the market ordered to do so By Uhuru Kenyatta, William Ruto, Mwai Kibaki or even Raila Odinga.

No!! these are people whom we had conversed with in a friendly way on the  previous day and on the next day they turned out on us. If as a citizen I would have taken my dutiful position and maintained peace then I guess we would not talk of Post Election Violence.

Had the church taken its rightful position and become neutral we would have been safe. Had we all clung to the Philosophy of Love Peace and Unity no one tribe would have lifted a panga on the other tribe. Had the lessons of peace which we had learned in class been applied, then we would all have sung in unison; Justice be our shield and defender.

I therefore say that the PEV was a big shame on us citizens especially we who broke into mama Nani's shop and stole the remaining stock on the account that she was from the other tribe.

I believe had we all been responsible we would have averted the situation It was because of our irresponsibility.
